MWFW Icons in Rio de Janeiro

MWFW 2013 icons, Derby, Stache and Tie arrived in Rio de Janeiro, primed to take in the beaches, nightlife and culture of this beautiful city. When they arrived at their hotel near the sultry Cobacabana Beach, Derby and Tie discovered that Stache had stuffed their suitcases overflowing with feathers and sequins. Unfortunately, they were too early for for the famous Carnival, which takes place in February of 2014, so Stache had to content himself with wearing the glittery garments to the beach at Ipanema.

While Stache would have liked to spend the whole visit on the beach, Derby and Tie insisted on taking in some culture and dragged him to visit the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer that rises above the city. Unfortunately, their close inspection of the statue’s face wasn’t exactly appreciated and they were roundly booed by the more devout visitors.

Their presence was more welcome at the Museu de Arte Moderna, where they were taken as an aspect of the abstract landscape designed by Brazilian architect Robert Burle Marx. The icons enjoyed their dinner at Porcão Rio’s, a popular restaurant in the Parque do Flamengo, before heading out to the  Lapa neighborhood for an evening of music and samba dancing. Derby had too much to drink, Tie came all undone and Stache’s feathers tickled all of his dance partners.

MWFW 2013 Icons Visit New York City

MWFW 2013 Icons in NYC

It’s been a great stay in New York City for the Menswear Fashion Week 2013 icons. The trio is exhausted after so many days and nights of endless shopping, exploring and entertainment. Derby was particularly thrilled about visiting Central Park, despite the fact that a few birds decided to change his sleek black look into a polka-dotted mess. After visiting a dry cleaner to get cleaned up, the group enjoyed The Phantom of the Opera and an exquisite late dinner before passing out, exhausted, at their hotel room.

Visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art proved to be a mistake when Stache was mistaken for a sculpture and subjected to several minutes of criticism before storming out, swearing that he’d never return. He finally calmed down as the group visited the Bronx Zoo, where they enjoyed watching the animals and the people. Derby, Stache, and Tie are on their way to a new location while the Menswear Fashion Week 2013 group works hard preparing the event for the final stop on their vacation.

You can take part in Derby, Stache, and Tie’s wonderful adventure by locating one of our MWFW 2013 Kiosks in any of our participating designer’s stores and clicking on it. October’s Trending Fashion Chamber has been bringing top of the line products at discounted prices to Second Life for quite some time and Menswear Fashion Week 2013 is pleased to announce that October Bettencourt has joined us to bring some incredible male items to her chamber at the 2013 event. October took a moment to share some insight into OFTC and her views on Menswear Fashion Week with us.

MWFW 2013: How did you begin October’s Trending Fashion Chamber?

October Bettencourt: Actually a few friends thought that it would be a great compliment to the modeling contest that I run that is based upon challenges of real life designers. October Trending Fashion Chamber (OFTC) coincided with a revamp and launch of the modeling contest, Face of October.

MWFW 2013: What is the concept behind October’s Trending Fashion Chamber?

OB: To deliver quality products from a variety of top designers from 75L to 300L. Everyone is always looking for a great deal and I wanted to provide a store that would have items that everyone would like from the average person to SL fashion models. Fashion should be for everyone, but most importantly it should be affordable.

MWFW 2013: What will your designers bring to Menswear Fashion Week 2013?

OB: The designers featured in October’s Trending Fashion Chamber are excited to showcase some of the menswear items. The will offer stylish mesh and non-mesh designs, poses and even jewelry.

MWFW 2013: What are your thoughts on Menswear Fashion Week 2013?

OB: Men’s fashion is an under-served market in SL. Even when you search for items for men on Marketplace the results are nowhere close to the amount of items available for women. MWFW showcases that men love fashion and need to be represented in more than just jeans and t-shirts or tuxedos. I am excited to see what is instore for MWFW 2013.

MWFW 2013: Is there anything else you’d like to add?

OB: Men, if you really want to win a woman’s heart change up your style to show her a surprise. Most men I know have one or two hairs in their inventory and wear the same clothes everyday. Women love surprises, especially when you do it with them in mind. That is giving her Valentine’s Day more than once a year! If you do well with your lady love on Valentine’s day, imagine how happy she would be if it happened a couple times a month!

Meet the SCS Designs Creators

Written by Merrick Genesis on . Posted in MWFW 2013 Blog

As we work toward another amazing Menswear Fashion Week, we took some time to talk to SCS Designs creators, Spike Clemenceau and Onyx Baily about their clothing, their approach to fashion, and Menswear Fashion Week 2013.

SCS Designs owners, Spike Clemenceau and Onyx Baily.

Menswear Fashion Week: How did SCS Designs begin?

Spike Clemenceau and Onyx Baily: It was originally thought out to provide realistic looking cowboy wear, after a shopping trip with my son, where he complained about the lack of choices out there. Given the success of the “Riata” line, the shop slowly expanded its options, from underwear to full casual outfits.

MWFW: What inspires your menswear fashions?

SC&OB: We get inspiration from all sources, but our main one would be people. The general public which gives us feedback and input on what they feel is missing in the SL menswear market.

MWFW: What makes SCS Designs unique?

SC&OB: Most of our designs are made over real fabrics, adding a realistic look to anything we make. We also strive to be original in every possible sense, but, of course, we can’t give out all of our secrets of production or we’d lose our originality.

MWFW: How did you approach the challenge of creating your Menswear Fashion Week exclusive designs this year?

SC&OB: We dove into it head first and gave it 110% to put out some of the best designs to ever come to SCS. We got inspired on the theme and made a few outfits based strictly on the concept. We also included a few original releases of our trademark outfits, to show the general public what we have to offer and where the brand is headed next, we have big plans and a few surprises in store, for example expanding our newly added accessories line.

Spike and Onyx are excited to share their designs at Menswear Fashion Week 2013, beginning on April 19th.
